Xbox Kicks Off New Cross-Play/Cross-Buy Initiative Play Anywhere With Gears Of War 4

by Brian Shea on Jun 13, 2016 at 06:51 AM

Gears of War 4 will be among the first games of a new system called Xbox Play Anywhere. The newly named feature allows players to get a Windows 10 or Xbox One copy of the game if they buy it for the other system. In addition, those two versions will be cross-play.

This means that those who buy the Xbox One version of Gears of War 4 are able to play with friends who own the game on Windows 10 PC. The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson said on-stage that it applies to all modes including co-op campaign, competitive multiplayer, and the new horde mode. It also syncs the achievements between the two platforms.

More games are planned to support the new Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. We've seen games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Quantum Break support cross-buy in the past, and titles like Rocket League blaze trails with cross-play between the two platforms. Gears of War 4 on October 11.
