What Is Bethesda's New Colossus?

by Mike Futter on Jun 12, 2016 at 05:25 PM

One thing you might have missed at the start of Bethesda's press conference was a quick mention of a game we've never heard of. Right before the publisher revealed Quake Champions, it showed an MS-DOS command prompt. Among the list of games is one we don't recognize.

Something called "New Colossus" appeared after Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. This hints that New Colossus might be an upcoming return to Wolfenstein's alternate history.

No release date is mentioned, in contrast with every other game listed. Tricky, Bethesda. We're excited that there might be more Wolfenstein coming, even if we won't be seeing its reveal this year.

Update: Now that the fast-paced action of the press conference is behind us, we dug into the name "New Colossus" a bit. It wasn't hard to find a connection, as that happens to be the name of the Emma Lazarus poem engraved on the Statue of Liberty. If this is a new Wolfenstein game (and it really seems like it is), we may be headed to the United States. With Germany in control, we might see a very different country than the one we know in the next installment.
