Something Strange Is Afoot As Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter Misses Today’s Console Launch

by Mike Futter on Jun 10, 2016 at 12:22 PM

If you want to play Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter today, you can. You just have to do it on PC. There is something strange going on with the console version.

In press releases provided as recently as May, publisher Bigben Interactive tagged the game with a June 10 release date on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Steam rollout happened as plan, but the game is absent from both the Xbox games store and PlayStation Store.

Marketing we just received has replaced the date with an amorphous “summer 2016” release window. However, it’s done so for all versions, including the already released PC edition.

In response to our inquiry, Bigben says that the game was delayed in North America last Friday until later this summer. "We did announce last Friday that the North American release of the game was delayed until later this summer," a representative told us via email. "It did release today in Europe only."

It's clear from the Steam availability that this only applies to consoles. The game is afoot... but only on PC.

Our Take
This is extremely odd, especially since it is out in Europe and reviews are circulating. While I know that Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter isn’t the biggest game of the summer, the franchise most certainly has its fans who are probably confused about what’s going on here.
