Overwatch Subreddit Subscriber Base Now Larger Than Dota 2’s

by Mike Futter on Jun 09, 2016 at 10:21 AM

If you’re looking for where the Overwatch community congregates, Reddit is a safe bet. The game’s subreddit is growing rapidly, with more than 350,000 subscribers.

The community there has already eclipsed Dota 2’s subreddit, which has more than 276,000 subscribers. Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter is closing in on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which boasts nearly 379,000 users.

With Blizzard angling to reproduce its StarCraft and Hearthstone esports successes, the subreddit usership gives us an early look at interest. Even before the competitive mode has launched, Overwatch is popular on Twitch. It's only likely to grow when there's cash on the line.

Our Take
I’m the first to admit that esports is outside my wheelhouse, but there’s clearly a critical mass of players interested in talking about Overwatch. Given Reddit’s importance to other esports scenes, we can’t discount a subscriber base of 352,000 people.
