EA Officially Announces FIFA 17 With Frostbite Engine Via Debut Trailer

by Matthew Kato on Jun 06, 2016 at 08:05 AM

Electronic Arts has announced that this fall's FIFA 17 will make use of the Frostbite engine developed by Battlefield studio DICE.

Game Informer reported last week from sources that FIFA would make the leap this year (following in the footsteps of last year's Rory McIlroy PGA Tour), and other series in the publisher's roster making the leap in the future.

EA isn't specifying how the engine will impact the game, so hopefully next week at E3 will provide more answers.

In other FIFA news, EA has announced four "ambassadors" who have worked with the company for the game (from left to right): James Rodriguez (Real Madrid), Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Anthony Martial (Manchester United) and Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund). These four players can be had on loan in FIFA Ultimate Team if you pre-order the title.

FIFA 17 comes out on September 27 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 (last-gen will not use Frostbite).

Our Take
I certainly hope this improves the franchise, and that EA sticks with it unlike the ballyhooed Ignite engine.
