A Nugget Of Doom Nostalgia Is Hidden In Every Mission

by Mike Futter on Apr 28, 2016 at 07:27 AM

Id Software hasn’t forgotten Doom’s 23-year legacy. In advance of the new game due out in May, the studio has revealed a set of easter eggs for which you can (and should) be on the look out.

Speaking with IGN, id’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin revealed that each level will have a lever that opens a hidden door. Once you find it, you’ll be treated to a snippet of a classic Doom or Doom II level.

They won’t be the entire things, but once you uncover them, you’ll be able to play the whole map from the menu. Some of these include original music, and all have monsters in the appropriate location.

You can check out the entire video to see how these are seamlessly integrated. Doom will be out on May 13 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Our Take
I love that the callbacks when found in the level won't disrupt from the flow of the mission but can be played in full on their own. I'm looking forward to hunting these down.
