Epic Games Announces Paragon Essentials Edition For PS4

by Matt Bertz on Apr 25, 2016 at 05:57 AM

Today Epic Games revealed plans to release a retail version of its shooter/MOBA hybrid Paragon with the backing of Sony.

The game will be free-to-play once it comes out of early access, but Epic is nevertheless trying to entice customers to buy a $60 version that it claims delivers more than $160 in value. Picking up the Essentials Edition gives you 6,000 Paragon coins, five hero master challenges that unlock challenger skins and XP boosts upon completion, five skins, and five rep boosts. Should you pre-order this edition, you get an additional 1,000 Paragon coins.

Look for the Sony published Paragon Essentials Edition come to PlayStation 4 on June 7.

Our Take
This is an interesting move by Epic Games, which has console cache and retail reputation thanks to its Gear of War series. I'm curious to see if this retail edition creates confusion for consumers who think they are buying a traditional console game but are in fact essentially getting in-game currency to spend on a free-to-play experience.
