Sentinels Of The Multiverse Video Game Kickstarter Will Digitize Remaining Expansions

by Mike Futter on Apr 18, 2016 at 09:50 AM

In 2014, cooperative card game Sentinels of the Multiverse was given the digital treatment. Earlier this year, publisher Greater Than Games announced it was wrapping up the game with a final physical expansion, however there are still some add-ons left to join the video game.

Today, developer Handelabra Games, launched a Kickstarter to fund the rest of the digitization effort. The “season two” content will include three mega-expansions and a number of smaller mini-expansions. These will join the base game, four larger add-ons, and two mini-packs that make up the currently available core and season one content.

For those that haven’t played, most deck-building games (which are similar in execution to Sentinels), players start with barebones decks at the start of every session. By acquiring new cards, those decks get stronger and more versatile in a quest for victory points to triumph over other players.

Sentinels of the Multiverse veers away from that genre standard by giving players a truly cooperative experience. Three to five heroes face off against against a supervillain and the battle environment itself.

Each hero, villain, and location has its own fixed deck that creates different match-ups each time you play. The goal is to defeat the evildoer rather than rack up points to best your human opponents.

The digital version streamlines the card-based mechanics elegantly, especially if you want to play alone. Managing multiple heroes is much easier when the computer is holding the cards instead of moving around the table to simulate having friends.

The Kickstarter effort is already 25 percent of the way to its $80,000 goal. If funded, season two content will start rolling out later this year, with all of the add-ons delivered by early 2017.

Sentinels of the Multiverse is currently available on PC, iOS, and Android. Some backer tiers for the Kickstarter include the core game on Steam and season one content.

Update: We fixed the Kickstarter link so it points to correct campaign.
