Reader Discussion: Which Video Game Storylines Had A Lasting Impression On You?
Video game storytelling can be told in several different ways, but they're best done when they use the medium's interactivity to their advantage.
Telltale Games, among others, have popularized branching narratives, giving the impression of player control through choice mechanics. Shadow of the Colossus used ambiguous storytelling to weave together a series of events in an artistic way. Video game stories have impacted me more so than any book or movie ever has. Some of my favorite storylines come from games such as Mass Effect 2, Grim Fandango, and last year's The Witcher 3. It's too difficult to choose just one.
