Doom Open Beta Coming April 15, DLC Plans Announced

by Mike Futter on Apr 06, 2016 at 04:28 AM

Did you miss out on the Doom closed beta because you didn’t have a code? You can still get your demon on in next weekend’s open test.

The open beta kicks off on Friday, April 15, and runs through Sunday, April 17. Additionally, Bethesda has laid out plans for post-launch support.

The publisher and developer id Software will be rolling out free updates for Snapmap (the map creation tool) and multiplayer modes. There will also be three paid add-ons.

These kick off during the summer, and the first will include three maps, and a new weapon, playable demon, armor set, piece of equipment, more hack modules, and new customization items (taunts, colors, and patterns).

The DLC packs are priced at $14.99 each and are available as a bundle for $39.99. Doom arrives on May 13 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For more, check out our impressions of the closed beta and our February 2016 cover story.

Our Take
A Doom season pass isn’t a surprise, but I’m glad that Bethesda is taking the blended route. Offering free updates to support community creations will keep new content flowing even for those that don’t want to pay for the DLC.
