Sony Creates Custom PlayStation 4 Controller For Gamer With Cerebral Palsy
When 21-year-old Peter Byrne reached out to Sony about problems he encountered with the DualShock 4 controller due to his illness, a PlayStation employee went far and beyond by sending him a custom-made PS4 controller to suit his needs.
According to broadcast media website New Jersey News 12, Byrne was having trouble using the new controller because of his disability, cerebral palsy. “When I play, I would hit the touchpad with my hand. It’s very sensitive…it would pause the game," he says in News 12's video. He reached out to Sony explaining the issue, and to his amazement, employee Alex Nawabi responded and said he would look into the matter personally.
After 10 hours of hard work, he built Byrne a custom-made controller. The modified version has small tweaks, including disabling the touchpad and adding a new button for its function.
In the letter Byrne received from Sony, which you can read in full here on Facebook, Nawabi writes, "The email you sent definitely struck a chord within. Although I can’t help everyone who has this problem, at least I could help you. I wish I had more to give you."
