John Carmack To Be Awarded BAFTA Fellowship

by Matthew Kato on Mar 24, 2016 at 04:15 AM

Legendary developer John Carmack will receive the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) annual Fellowship, following in the footsteps of notables such as Will Wright and Shigeru Miyamoto.

Carmack made his name as the co-founder of id Software and his programming prowess on Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and more. He is currently the chief technology officer for virtual-technology company Oculus.

"Receiving a BAFTA Fellowship is a great honor," said Carmack upon receiving the fellowship. "Over the course of my career, I've remained passionate about the potential for engineering and technology improvements to expand the range of human creativity. Graphics, networking, extendable platforms, and now virtual reality; each has enabled magnificent new things that delight millions of people. I am as excited about the future today as I was when I started."

Carmack will be honored at the British Academy Games Awards on April 7.
