Sony Taking Pre-Orders For $500 And $400 PlayStation VR Bundles

by Matthew Kato on Mar 21, 2016 at 02:24 PM

Update: Due to feedback, Sony is opening up pre-orders for the $399 Core bundle on March 29 at 7:00 a.m. PT. For more information, visit the PlayStation blog.

Previous story:

Sony has announced that starting next week at 7:00 a.m. PT Tuesday, March 22, it will start taking pre-orders for a $500 PlayStation VR launch-day bundle that includes everything you need for PSVR and more.

The limited Launch bundle includes everything from the $399 Core bundle (PSVR headset/cables, stereo headphones, and demo disc) as well as the PlayStation VR Worlds game, two Move controllers, and the PS camera. The camera – which is $60 itself – is required for the PSVR experience (as is a PS4), but is not in the $399 Core bundle. The Move controllers are not required for PSVR.

Sony says that if the pre-orders are maxed out for the Launch bundle, it will start them up again in the summer. The company says that the Core bundle, however, is not available for pre-order.

The PlayStation VR comes out in October.

Our Take
It's annoying that camera isn't sold in the Core bundle (which then is technically not Core, I guess), but the small silver lining is that at $499, this Launch bundle is giving you value with what's included. I can only hope that Sony starts taking pre-orders for the Core bundle for those whom already have the Move camera.
