Creator of Original X-COM Announces New Strategy Game Phoenix Point

by Luke Walaszek on Mar 18, 2016 at 08:42 AM

Julian Gollop, the mind behind the original X-COM series, has announced the title of his next project. Phoenix Point will be a strategy game featuring what Gollop calls “world based strategy.”

Gollop announced Phoenix Point on Twitter early this morning, with a link to the game’s official website. There are no details available, other than the grotesque silhouette of what appears to be some sort of multi-legged creature with a human head.

Phoenix Point is being developed by Gollop’s studio, Snapshot Games. Snapshot Game’s last title, Chaos Reborn, was successfully funded on Kickstarter and entered into Steam early access back in 2014. The full game was released last October.

While no other names have been officially attached to the project, Talos Principle writer Jonas Kyratzes replied to the announcement on Twitter saying he wanted to get involved, to which Gollop replied “Let’s talk.”

Our Take
It's hard to get excited about a title we know virtually nothing about, but Phoenix Point has the pedigree to be something great. It'll be interesting to see if Snapshot takes to Kickstarter for funding again, or if the studio decides to fund the title through more traditional means.
