The Division Blows Past First-Day Sales Record, Claims Biggest Week For New IP

by Jeff Cork on Mar 15, 2016 at 10:01 AM

Last week, Ubisoft trumpeted the first-day sales for The Division, which the company said broke its internal records. Now, a week after the game's release, Ubisoft says it's broken the industry record for a new game franchise in an opening week.

According to Ubisoft, The Division has grossed more than $330 million worldwide, split between physical and digital editions of the game – which includes a $99.99 Gold Edition. Players have logged more than 100 million hours on the game so far, with a weekend peak of 1.2 million concurrent players.

“The Division taking the top spot in the industry for first week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement. We are very proud of our teams, and humbled by and thankful for the millions of players who are giving us their feedback and support,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft.

Our Take
I've been having a great time with The Division, and I don't  want to admit how many of those hours I've personally clocked. If nothing else, it's nice to finally learn that "Tom Clancy's ____" is not, in fact, a singular franchise.
