Rolling Lego BB-8 Is Gaining Traction On Lego Ideas

by Connor Trinske on Mar 15, 2016 at 08:03 AM

A pair of dedicated Star Wars and Lego fans have constructed a Lego BB-8 model that actually rolls, and they're hoping to get it distributed worldwide. Their project on Lego Ideas currently has over 8,000 supporters and growing.

The model is able to roll on a single axis while keeping its "head" on top using only Lego magnets and parts. It will include detachable electric zapper and thumbs-up torch arms, as well as a desert base station that uses a turn crank to demonstrate its rolling. Head to their Lego Ideas page to see more images and some in-depth descriptions.

Lego Ideas is similar to Kickstarter, where someone can share their custom-made plan for a new Lego set and get a shot at having it manufactured around the world. Supporters pay nothing to support the project, but once a project reaches 10,000 supporters, it will be considered by the Lego Review Board and may become a new Lego set.
