The Division Now Holds Ubisoft's First-Day Sales Record

by Mike Futter on Mar 09, 2016 at 09:46 AM

Ubisoft isn’t saying how many copies The Division sold, but the game is setting company records. It has beaten out every other game in the publisher’s history with regard to first-day sales.

The Division trails only Destiny and joins Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed at the top of the new franchise launch sales list. Ubisoft’s latest also set digital full-game sales records for the company.

Our Take
Ubisoft needed this win. The company has, for the first time in years, bumped Assassin’s Creed off its annual cycle, leaving a gap for the next fiscal year. With Vivendi threatening a hostile takeover, successes like this help insulate the company and make it more attractive to the investors it is currently courting.
