Excellent Darth Maul Fan Film 'Apprentice' Lets The Sith Show His Real Potential

by Brian Shea on Mar 07, 2016 at 02:16 PM

When Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace hit theaters in 1999, fans were largely disappointed by the direction that George Lucas took both visually and narratively. One bright spot to come out of the film, however, was Darth Maul, the Sith apprentice to Palpatine. Unfortunately, we never got to see the character reach his full potential in the feature films as he met an early demise at the end of the Phantom Menace.

In this new live-action fan film by T7 Production, we get a non-canonical look into what happened before Darth Maul faced off against Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. While I don't want to spoil the action for you, suffice it to say Darth Maul had a lot of Jedi hunting on his plate. You can check out this awesome fan film below.

The film was written, produced, and directed by Shawn Bu and stars Ben Schamma (aka Maul Cosplay) as the titular character. According to the description of the video of YouTube, this video is the culmination of two years of work. "We always felt that Darth Maul should have had more screen time," it read. "So we wanted to create a film just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could do!"
