Riot And Activision Blizzard Make Fortune’s 100 Best Companies To Work For List

by Mike Futter on Mar 03, 2016 at 09:36 AM

If you’re looking for a good place to work in the video game industry, Fortune’s list of the 100 best places to work might offer some guidance. Two game companies appear on the list for 2016.

League of Legends developer Riot Games appears on the list at number 39. Riot placed 13 on the 2015 list.

Activision Blizzard makes a return appearance in 2016. The company that sits atop studios that make Call of Duty, StarCraft, and Skylanders was 96 in 2015, improving to 77 this year.

In order to create its ranking, Fortune and Great Place to Work perform employee surveys. According to the methodology on the official website, two-thirds of the score is based on the results of the survey sent to a randomized selection of employees. This includes questions about management, job satisfaction, and the workplace camaraderie.

The other third is based on a culture audit focused on benefits and compensation, hiring practices, training, diversity, and recognition programs. You can see the full list of the 100 companies on Fortune’s website.

Our Take
Making this list is a challenge, and having two very different game companies make an appearance is good to see. Riot, which is focused on one title represents how a good company can rally around a single critical game. Riot is also known for its rigorous hiring practices and its commitment to culture.

Activision, which has broadened its scope in the past few months to include television, movies, and eSports, is often seen as a behemoth. Congratulations to both.
