Former LucasArts Dev Envisioned Star Wars: Episode VII Game Starring Luke’s Son

by Mike Futter on Feb 25, 2016 at 08:14 AM

Before the expanded universe was wiped out of existence. Even before Disney acquired all things Lucas, there was a game idea for what Star Wars seventh episode might be.

A one-sheet, which is a basic concept, some art, and a logo, was created by Mafia III creative director Haden Blackman while he was at LucasArts. The 2004 idea for Shadows of the Sith would have starred Luke Skywalker’s son, Ben.

The character would have been torn between the light and dark sides of the Force (sound familiar, The Force Awakens fans?). He also would have been pitted against a Solo, which may also resonate, though no one really knows yet.

To be clear, Shadows of the Sith lived only on a single sheet of paper. It was never approved for production, and therefore never even reached the stage where one could call it “canceled.” It is simply an idea that never became fleshed out.

You can read the entire interview with Blackman, which includes an inside look at the game concept process on Cinelinx. For other Star Wars games that never quite materialized, check out our coverage of the canceled Darth Maul game and the long history of LucasArts’ demise.

Our Take
The concept process yields more abandoned ideas than we can possibly know. The similarities to some of The Force Awakens’ plot points make this a bit more interesting, but it isn’t worth shedding a tear over one of countless ideas that never make it past this stage.
