Ubisoft CEO: Assassin's Creed May Not Be Yearly From Now On

by Matthew Kato on Feb 18, 2016 at 07:01 AM

Last week Ubisoft confirmed the rumors that the Assassin's Creed franchise would skip this year, and at the company's Investor Day it's president and CEO Yves Guillemot said that the series might not be yearly from now on.

During a Q&A session, when asked if the franchise would once again be yearly when it came back, Guillemot said, "The goal is not automatically to come back on an annual cycle but to come on a regular basis. We saw that it was time now to give it lots of time so [the developers] could really work on the property and all the mechanics to make sure we could take it to another level. What we are seeing today is really promising. We will be able to come [out] on a regular basis. Now we can't say every year."

Later on in the presentation's Q&A session, CFO Alain Martinez, said that the company could return to a yearly schedule, but that if it did so, it would do so only if the game was ready and not because there's a specific schedule to adhere to.

Our Take
As a fan of the franchise, I'm glad the company is not setting anything in stone, but instead trying to focus on putting out the best game possible.
