Head Of Sony VR Studio Steps Down

by Matthew Kato on Feb 10, 2016 at 03:20 AM

Dr. Dave Ranyard is leaving Sony's London Studio – the developer of various PlayStation VR demos (including London Heist, shown) – in order to "independently" work on other VR projects.

Ranyard was at the studio for 17 years, and worked on projects like The Getaway, Singstar, Eyetoy, and Wonderbook.

"2016 is going to be the year of VR so it's the perfect time for me to take this step into independent development," said Ranyard in a press release. "The emergence of a new medium like VR doesn't come along very often and I really want to be a part of this new world."

Ranyard has not specifically divulged what he's doing next.

Our Take
Given his quote, it's interesting that he doesn't want to "be a part of this new world" with the VR device he was already working on.
