Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 Leads YouTube’s January Top Trending Games
YouTube has released a new list of trending games on the service. Two of the games on the list aren’t out yet, but had betas pushing interest to the top of the rankings.
Topping the list is the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. An open beta in the middle of the month was available for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Right behind it on the list was Ubisoft’s anticipated MMO shooter, The Division. A closed beta was offered at the end of the month to those that pre-ordered.

Our Take
The trending list is an interesting blend in a number of ways. There are both AAA and indie titles (in almost equal numbers). Competitive games are represented by Smite, Rocket League, and Garden Warfare 2, but there are also a number of solo and cooperative entries.
The one takeaway here seems to be the power of beta access when it comes to YouTube. Viewers are understandably interested in big name, pre-release titles with user-generated video. Admittedly, I am surprised by Boom Beach, a mobile title, scraping up to the number 10 spot.
