[Update] Day-One Mods For XCOM 2 Made By Creators Of The Long War Revealed

by Javy Gwaltney on Jan 30, 2016 at 08:18 AM

Update: Firaxis has unveiled the mods that Long War Studios has been working on for XCOM 2. There are three of them that will be available to play on launch day. The first implements submachine guns while another mod adds leadership perks that can be assigned to certain units. The last modification introduces a new enemy called a Muton Centurion that looks like a bruiser-type foe.

In an interview with Eurogamer, when asked about the possibility of a Long War-type modification for XCOM 2, John Lumpkin, one of the developers at Long War Studios, said: "We'll see. We are certainly open and exploring the possibility of turning more content."

Original Story (January 24 at 9:58 a.m. Central): Firaxis has announced on its XCOM 2 blog that the development team that created The Long War, the first XCOM's most popular modification, is already creating "multiple mods" for XCOM 2 . Not only that, but apparently these mods will launch alongside the game's release on February 5.

There aren't any details on the nature of these modifications yet but Firaxis will be unveil information about them when they show off the game at PAX South during their panel. If you're not going to PAX, you can watch a stream of the panel here on January 30 at 12:30 p.m. Central.

Recently these modders revealed that they had created their own studio (simply called Long War Studios) and were working on their own game, Terra Invicta. Like the mods for XCOM 2, there aren't that many details for Terra Invicta except that it sounds like a more cerebral version of XCOM.
