Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Confirmed For Western Release On PS4

by Mike Futter on Jan 25, 2016 at 03:01 AM

Today brings good news for Valkyria Chronicles fans in western territories. Sega has confirmed that the previously announced remastered version will be released globally.

With last year’s release of the game on PC, it might have been assumed that Sega would export the remastered version. However, the series’ history left fans wondering.

Valkyria Chronicles 3, released (like its immediate predecessor) on PSP never made its way outside of Japan. Fans still eagerly await releases of the second and third entries on contemporary platforms.

The remastered version of the series’ first entry will be out this Spring. Sega has upgraded the visuals to 1080p and 60 frames-per-second. It will include all of the DLC released for the original (Hard EX Mode, Edy's Mission, Selvaria's Mission, and Challenge of the Edy Detachment), as well as trophies.

First-run physical copies will come with a Squad 7 Armored steelbook case. Digital and retail versions are priced at $29.99.

Our Take
Valkyria Chronicles was a standout PlayStation 3 game, and there was understandable lament that it became a PSP series. Sega has a golden opportunity here to correct that misstep by releasing the second and third games on PC and current-gen consoles. From there, we have reason to hope that the recently announced return to the series makes its way west.
