A Behind-The-Scenes Look At The Making Of The Force Awakens' VFX

by Andrew Reiner on Jan 13, 2016 at 11:53 AM

What kind of awards will Star Wars: The Force Awakens be nominated for at this year's Oscars? We'll find out tomorrow morning when the nominees are announced, but if a video posted on the Oscars' official YouTube channel is any indication, it looks like it's at least in consideration for best visual effects in a movie.

The video is surprisingly lengthy, clocking in at over 10 minutes, and is filled with spoilers for those of you who haven't seen the movie yet. Although we heard J. J. Abrams used practical effects as much as he could, most of the clips show a heavy reliance on computer effects or post-production finishing. The lack of BB-8 in many scenes is particularly interesting.

Here's hoping the forthcoming DVD and Blu-Ray editions are loaded with extras just like this one.

Update: Unfortunately, it looks like Disney has had the video pulled down. It was likely never meant to be seen publicly, at least not yet. If it goes back online, we'll be sure to update this story.
