Penn Jillette Is Remaking Desert Bus For Virtual Reality With Randy Pitchford

by Ben Reeves on Jan 12, 2016 at 12:40 PM

Desert Bus is one of the most ridiculous games ever made, as it simulated a ride from L.A. to Vegas in real time. But the game's tedium hasn’t stopped gamers from marathoning the driving simulator for charity. Soon, this bus trip will be getting a VR update thanks to magician Penn Jillette and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford.

The original Desert Bus was a mini-game in the never-released 1995 Sega CD title, Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors. Jillette hopes to remake the game as part of a larger package for charities that he hopes to release on the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR.

"I'm working on a game,” said Jillette said during a recent episode of his podcast Penn's Sunday School. “I’m working with Randy Pitchford, and we're going to do – and this is a big, big deal – we’re going to do a new Desert Bus and it’s going to be just for charities, so charities can use it to raise money.”

You can read about Jillette’s involvement in the original project in our interview with the entertainer from a few years ago.
