With Rift pre-orders underway and the price point finally known, Oculus has laid its cards on the table. Now, HTC is beginning to show its hand.

Speaking with UK newspaper The Telegraph, HTC CEO Cher Wang revealed that pre-orders for its VR headset, the Vive, will begin on February 29. No price point has yet been announced.

Oculus caught some members of the gaming community off-guard asking $600 for the first consumer Rift. The company addressed confusion over the pricing, and you can read our analysis of how it will impact the VR market for more.

Whether HTC and Sony, which plans to release PlayStation VR, can beat Facebook-owned Oculus on price has been a frequently speculated point recently. We at least now know a drop-dead date by which HTC will have to reveal the cost of its partnership with Valve's VR team.

Our Take
I suspect that HTC won't be able to beat Oculus on price, and the Vive might even be more expensive. It comes with two sensor arrays and two motion controllers. Because we don't know how Oculus will price its own VR controllers, Touch, it will be hard to compare bottom line pricing for a while yet.
