Earlier today, Daybreak announced that DC Universe Online will land on Xbox One this Spring. When it does, players on that platform will have access to the 20 episodes already released and be along for a host of new material coming this year.

We spoke with DCUO creative director SJ Mueller about what fans can expect this year. A number of quality of life improvements join the new content en route for the coming twelve months.

New Content in 2016

This month sees the kickoff of CW's third DC Comics television show. Legends of Tomorrow joins Arrow and The Flash, building out the pantheon of heroes even further.

While the DCUO integration won't be identical, there will be a number of parallels. Mueller tells us that Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Atom, Captain Cold, and Heatwave will be assembled by a time traveler to combat villains featured the show.

She didn't say that the time traveler was Rip Hunter, though. this hints that it might be another DC character entirely. As for the villains, previews for the television show indicate that Vandal Savage will be making a return after his introduction in a December cross-over event.

This year will also see a greater focus on Superman and related characters. This includes Supergirl, General Zod, Lex Luthor, Superboy, and even a trip to the Negative Zone. We'll also finally see the culmination of years of teasing with a battle against Darkseid on Apokolips. Other new environments include the Bottle City of Kandor (the former capital of Krypton) and the Luthor Science Spire.

Harley Quinn returns in 2016, bringing along her clownishly large hammer. This is well-timed thanks to the Suicide Squad movie releasing in August. Wonder Woman will also get the spotlight as the character turns 75 later this year.

Improving Quality of Life in Gotham

On the feature front, Daybreak is implementing a number of fan-requested changes that will make it more enjoyable to start a new hero or villain. Styles, which function like transmogrofication in other MMOs, will start to permeate across accounts. This way, you won't need to unlock parts anew for each new character.

You'll also be able to unlock gear for your alts by collecting it for any of your characters. With endgame progression tightly tied to gear (level cap hasn't budged from 30 since launch five years ago), unlocking armor and weapons for alts will get you later content faster.

For those looking to build up their leagues with new players, Daybreak will be introducing new recruitment tools. And, if customization is your thing, you'll be able to add a fourth color to your character palette. You still can't use more than three colors on any given gear slot, but the fourth option will give you more flexibility.

New Players and New Ways To Play

The final piece of big news is that Daybreak will be merging the PlayStation and PC servers at long last. Xbox One servers will be sequestered, but those on the other two platforms will be able to play together this spring.

DCUO is free-to-play on PC and PS4, with Xbox One coming online this spring. You can subscribe for access to more power options, character slots, discounts on marketplace purchase, and a monthly Daybreak cash disbursement for cosmetics and other optional items.
