There's Still Time To Tune In To Take This' Charity Stream And Donate For A Good Cause

by Mike Futter on Dec 28, 2015 at 05:22 AM

Update 2: My part of the stream is over, but Take This' charity drive continues. Be sure to tune in on Take This' Twitch channel!

Update 1: I'll be joining the Take This "It's Dangerous to Stream Alone" event today at 2 p.m. Eastern / 11 a.m. Pacific. I'll be playing Minecraft on Xbox One via my personal Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/paladinxii) and taking suggestions, criticisms, and ridicule from viewers. Watch me figure out how to build a tiny hovel and survive the night!

Our Take:

Take This, a nonprofit organization dedicated to informing and de-stigmatizing mental health issues in the gaming community, will be holding its second annual It’s Dangerous to Stream Alone charity event next week. For 36 hours, the group will host a number of well-known individuals from across the gaming community raising money for a new “scholarship” fund.

The Take This Scholarship Fund will help those in need pay for mental health care expenses. More than 30 streamers, including Ken Levine, Jim Sterling, Gearbox’s Aaron Linde and David Eddings (the voice of Claptrap), and Bethesda’s Matt Grandstaff, will be participating starting at 12 p.m. Eastern / 9 a.m. Pacific on December 28th.

As a disclosure, I have volunteered my time for Take This in the past, and I’m glad to be helping out this cause once more. I will be joining in for an hour at 2 p.m. Eastern / 11 a.m. Pacific on December 29. If you’re interested in seeing me bumble my way through my first Minecraft experience, tune in!

There are a few different ways you can participate. Streams are always better with viewers, and you can check the schedule for the complete list of who is streaming and when.

If you are so inclined to help with monetary support, Take This will be collecting donations here. If you prefer a bit of incentive, there are a number of items that will be given away at random to those that make a financial gift.

Prizes include PAX South weekend passes, a signed Psychonauts print, and a custom Fallout 4 Xbox One signed by celebrities including Robbie Amell (The Flash), Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight), and Justine “iJustine” Ezarik.

If you are so inclined, you can also help raise funds for Take This. The organization has a Tiltify page where you can sign up to stream and raise money on its behalf.

In addition to the holiday stream, Take This has a presence at major industry events offering "AFK" rooms for those that need a break from the overwhelming nature of the show floor. The group also offers resources, information, and a path to professional assistance for those in need, whether due to directly suffering or wanting to help a loved one.

If you are interested in the full list of streamers and prizes, you can visit the It’s Dangerous to Stream Alone page. For more on Take This, visit the organization’s website. You can also watch a documentary about the charity for an in-depth look.

Update: The donation link above has been fixed.
