by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 17, 2015 at 01:00 AM

The well-regarded PSP (and later PS2) title Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories arrives on iOS with a number of upgrades today.

The game is $6.99 and you can find the list of updates below:

  • New high resolution textures and character art
  • Real time lighting and shadows
  • 60 FPS gameplay on iPhone 6s, iPad Air 2 & iPad Pro
  • Enhanced draw distance
  • Rebalanced controls for touch-based gaming
  • Cross-platform cloud saves via the Rockstar Social Club
  • 3D Touch support for multiple control options
  • Custom soundtrack support (you just have to make a playlist called GTALCS to access it in-game)
  • Physical controller support
  • Native retina screen support including the iPad Pro

When the original game released on PSP in 2005 we gave it a 9.25 with Matt Helgeson writing in his review, "I, for one, am happy to be back home where it all began, and find myself falling in love with Liberty City all over again. The addition of a robust multiplayer mode makes this homecoming all the sweeter."

Rockstar says the Android version is coming "very soon." A trailer for the re-release will also be available in a few hours.

Update: Trailer added.

Our Take
I never beat Liberty City Stories, but I loved it when it came out. It easily justified my PSP purchase, and I loved showing it off to naysayers. It was a technical marvel, and a good game. Considering I never finished it, I think I would like to play it on iOS, but I always struggle with touch controls, so we'll see.
