Reader Discussion: Do You Miss Arcades?

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 13, 2015 at 06:49 AM

Arcades are far from being totally gone, but the culture has certainly declined since its prime. Do you miss them?

I have memories of stuffing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade machine full of tokens with my brother until we beat it. The same goes for the Star Wars Arcade Trilogy machine that showed up a few years later. I also remember forcing my college friends to visit a nearby Chuck E. Cheese's with me so we could check out the arcade Mario Kart. I like the idea of the dedicated video game experience that requires a trip, but overall, I don't think I really miss arcades. I like having the best experiences at home where I can spend as much time as I want on them.

What about you? Are you disappointed that playing as Akuma in a Tekken game would require a trip to Japan, or that playing this crazy new Star Wars arcade machine requires a trip in the car? And what about this Batman game that you probably didn't even know existed? Do you miss arcades?
