Exclusive Character & Open Beta Coming To Battleborn First On PlayStation 4 [Trailer Added]

by Andrew Reiner on Dec 05, 2015 at 06:34 AM

Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, took the stage at Sony's PlayStation Experience press conference in San Francisco, CA today to talk about Battleborn, the company's new "hero shooter." Although Gearbox has said Battleborn will feature 25 playable characters, Pitchford announced that the number is growing to 26, but only on PlayStation 4.

The 26th character, who won't be released until after launch, will be free for those who participate in the open beta. That will be coming first to PlayStation 4 in early 2016.

The beta will include the 16th announced character, giving players a look at Toby. At first glance, this character appears to be a mech out of Borderlands, but closer inspection reveals a normal-sized penguin in mech's cockpit. This odd new character looks and sounds like he's stripped right out of a Dreamworks movie, but is armed to the teeth with arc mines, a force field, and an energy dump laser.

Battleborn launches May 3 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
