Play Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 For Free In New Edition

by Matthew Kato on Nov 30, 2015 at 06:31 AM

Konami has announced a free-to-play version of its popular Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 title, and this new way to experience the game comes out on December 8.

This free download features an exhibition mode comprised of seven teams (Juventus, Bayern Munich, AS Roma, Brazil, France, and more), a training mode, and the full myClub mode.

MyClub mode is an Ultimate Team-style way to play the game containing microtransactions. You can can still build your squad without them, however.

This free version of the game is compatible with all the updates for the regular title – including the much-needed summer transfer roster update (to get rid of some of those outdated faces in the shot above) that's currently scheduled for December 3.

Konami has the license for the Euro 2016 tournament, and has recently announced that unspecified Euro 2016 content will be free to users next year via a data pack.

For more on the full version of the game, be sure to read my glowing review.

Our Take
Konami has caused understandable consternation amongst gamers for its shift away from a triple-A-heavy roster, but this could be a nice middleground. Make money on a smaller, commerce-focused product that doesn't take away from the main game. Hopefully this draws some interest in the full title as well as generate revenue that is pumped back into the franchise.
