Techland Increases Price Of Dying Light Season Pass As The Following Expansion Grows

by Mike Futter on Nov 25, 2015 at 03:15 AM

If you’re interested in more Dying Light, you’re going to want to jump on the season pass in the next two weeks. Techland has announced that the $19.99 bundle is increasing in price by 50 percent.

The company says that the upcoming The Following expansion has grown significantly since its inception, leading to a standalone price point of $19.99 (up from $14.99). The developer suggests that it could exist as a standalone game, but will release it as DLC to avoid a further delay.

The price of the season pass increases to $29.99 beginning December 8. Those who already purchased it are unaffected and will still receive The Following as part of that bundle as promised.

The Following will be out early next year. For more on Dying Light, check out our review.

Our Take
This is a strange situation. It ultimately reveals feature creep and an apparent lack of direction when the season pass was announced and sold.

Ultimately, this is the other side of the coin we typically see with season passes. Usually, gamers are being asked to buy them on faith without knowing what’s in store. Sometimes that disappoints.

If Techland is being straight with gamers, those that buy the season pass before December 8 are actually going to get more for their dollar than the developer originally intended. It still feels strange to have a company change the deal like this.
