Reader Discussion: Do Multiplayer Shooters Need Dedicated Single-Player Campaigns?

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 21, 2015 at 10:51 AM

Multiplayer games like Titanfall, Evolve, and Star Wars: Battlefront all lack dedicated single-player campaigns like Call of Duty and Halo. Is this a problem?

For me personally, the multiplayer, no matter how good it is, is always secondary to game's single-player (or co-op) story campaign. I understand that this is not true of all players though. I just don't, in general, play well with others. I enjoyed my Titanfall, but desperately missed the opportunity to play through a single-player game that explored the world established by the fiction. The same can be said for Evolve.

How do you feel about single-player campaigns in multiplayer-focused shooters? Do you skip right past them? Or are they a requirement to attract your interest? Let us know in the comments below.
