Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Slips To An August 2016 Release

by Jeff Cork on Nov 18, 2015 at 04:39 AM

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's release date has been bumped from February of next year to the end of August. Eidos Montreal revealed the news on a post on the game's official site, citing the studio's unwillingness to compromise on quality in order to meet the earlier deadline.

"We're confident and proud of the game so far," wrote Eidos Montreal studio head David Anfossi. "However, as we are now playing through the game in full we can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations, and refinement to meet our high standards. In order to achieve this, we need to move the release of the game to August 23rd, 2016.

"We are sorry to disappoint you with this news, and also thank you for all of your support and comments. This game is a huge part of our lives, and we don't want to compromise on its quality."

Our Take
The studio was stung by the reception to elements of the first Deus Ex reboot, particularly how the stealth was balanced regarding boss fights. Most of these concerns were addressed later, but it clearly left a mark. Fans are more likely to get over a delay than a partially baked game, so if the game needs more time in the over, so be it.
