[Update] The Banner Saga 2 Delayed Out Of 2015, Console Versions On Track

by Mike Futter on Nov 06, 2015 at 04:56 AM

Update: The Banner Saga publisher has provided an update on the status of the console versions of the first game in the series. The good news is that things are moving along nicely.

The console ports of the Banner Saga are in full affect.  We are currently wrapping up development for the first game now (in with 1st party submission).  The delays in the console is mainly game development fun, but also the team has spent time working on console specific controls to make it perform as a console game, more than just a port.

Banner Saga 2’s development is progressing nicely.  Customers who have attended Gamescom and PAX have seen its progress.  We will update everyone on its launch date when the timing is right.

The board game is being developed by MegaCon Games and in no way has affected our development on porting Banner Saga to consoles nor has it caused any delays Banner Saga 2.

Original Story:

It appears that publisher Versus Evil and developer Stoic are delaying The Banner Saga 2 out of the current calendar year. Reports have surfaced indicating a new release window of first quarter 2016.

Eurogamer reports the update, and also shines light on the absent console iterations of the original title. The publisher suggests that the next game Stoic plans to release is the sequel.

We’ve reached out to Versus Evil for clarification on the status of the PlayStation 4 and Vita versions of The Banner Saga. Those were due out this calendar year, also.

Our Take
At this point in the year, anything still undated for 2015 is a long shot for release in the calendar year. Those hoping for a console version of the original should stay tuned, as this news doesn’t sound hopeful about eventual PS4 and Vita releases.
