Read This If You Digitally Pre-Ordered And Pre-Loaded Fallout 4 On Xbox One

by Mike Futter on Nov 06, 2015 at 03:29 AM

Bethesda has alerted Xbox One gamers to a potential issue with their pre-loaded copy of Fallout 4. Don’t worry, you’ll be good to on November 10 as long as you follow these steps.

As we learned with pre-loaded copies of Halo 5: Guardians, there are placeholder versions of the game on the Xbox Games Store called “stub files.” If you use the Instant On power mode such that updates can be downloaded in standby, you should be all set. Additionally, if you pre-ordered and pre-loaded after October 27, you’re similarly in the clear.

However, if you pre-purchased before October 27 and do not use the Instant On mode, you’ll need to re-download the game before you can play. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Navigate to My Games & Apps.
  • Find the title's tile in Games.
  • With the tile highlighted, press the [Menu] button on your controller.
  • Select Manage Game.
  • In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps.
  • Scroll right to the "Ready to Install" section under Games.
  • Highlight the title's tile.
  • Press [A] to select.
  • Choose Install.

Fallout 4 is due out on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check back later for our in-depth feature on the making of the game.
