Call Of Duty PC Mods And Map Tools Coming To Black Ops III In 2016

by Mike Futter on Nov 02, 2015 at 05:55 AM

PC fans have been asking Activision for modding and map tool support in Call of Duty for quite some time. This is the year it finally happens.

The new features won’t be ready when the game launches later this week. However, Activision and Treyarch do have a roadmap of when they expect things to start rolling out.

A closed alpha is planned for March 2016. At that time, you’ll be able to start experimenting with maps and game modes. You’ll also be able to host your own dedicated servers for the content, and there will be a browser setup so you can find what you’re looking for.

Following the closed alpha, Treyarch will progress to open beta. At this point, you’ll be able to start checking out what the community has been working on (and start contributing your own creations).

The timeline is tentative right now, and Treyarch will be updating as more information is available. Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be out this Friday, November 6, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Our Take
This is a huge step for Call of Duty, and I’m eager to see how the PC community makes Black Ops III their own. I’m interested to see if zombies are on the table for modding and, if so, if the community can come up with easter eggs as convoluted as Treyarch’s official ones.
