Super Mario Maker Update Adds Checkpoints, More Courses Next Week

by Mike Futter on Oct 27, 2015 at 04:24 AM

Nintendo is beefing up Super Mario Maker next week with new features and more courses. The free update will go live on November 4, giving creators new options to torture their friends with diabolical death machines.

The update allows players to add checkpoints to existing levels (or create new ones that include them). You’ll also be able to create status-dependent power-ups. For instance, a fire flower block can be set to eject a super mushroom if Mario is small.

The November update also adds more courses designed and curated by Nintendo. Included will be the winning level from the company’s partnership with Facebook. You’ll also be able to tackle the level featured in the final round of the PAX Prime 2015 Omegathon.

Nintendo says it will be adding more levels along the way. You’ll find them in the new “Official Makers” section of the Course World area. For more on Super Mario Maker, check out our review.
