New Horizon Zero Dawn Footage Is Thunderous

Horizon was one of the breakout titles from E3, and thankfully the game looks better than ever in Sony’s newest demo.

Hermen Hulst from Guerrilla Games showed off Horizon: Zero Dawn during Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference. Set on Earth nearly a thousand years into the future, Horizon explores a world ruled by amazing machines that look a lot like the great beasts that once ruled our world billions of years ago. Players control Aloy, a hunter and archer who progresses through a post-apocalyptic land.

Player will have to be strategic when taking down these foes. In the demo, we watched Aloy track some beasts across a river. She needs to collect canisters from the backs of a couple of wild machines. Each machine is a part of an ecology and features its own unique resources that Aloy can use to build new weapons, outfits, and gadgets.

Combat is all about knowing your environment and your enemies. We watch Aloy use an explosive tripwire to set up a trap for the herd. After that, she lures the herd into that trap by setting off an explosion on the other side of the group. We watched Aloy use a bullet-time slow-mo to take better aim at her attackers before finally being confronted by a giant beast called the Thuderjaw. Some enemies have weapons that you can remove and then use against your foes, but it's best if you watch that fight for yourself.

The game still looks great, and we can’t wait to see more of it before its official release sometime in 2016.
