New Xbox One Experience And Backward Compatibility Hit Your Console November 12

by Brian Shea on Oct 26, 2015 at 03:08 PM

During today's Halo 5: Guardians stream, Xbox's Phil Spencer announced that the New Xbox One Experience dashboard will be pushed to all Xbox One owners on November 12. Alongside the new dashboard, that update brings with it the start of the Xbox 360 backward compatibility on Xbox One for several games.

Within the new dashboard, Xbox is promising faster performance and a simplified user interface using Windows 10. The new dashboard also features enhanced social integration and a new vertical scrolling layout. OneGuide also receives a big update that makes it more of a single destination for those that use multiple apps to enjoy content.

The backward compatibility list will feature over 100 titles including games from the Gears of War, Halo, Borderlands, and Mass Effect series. The list of supported titles will continue to be updated in the future. If you're not in the Preview Program, you can expect to see this update hit your Xbox One on November 12.

Our Take
The New Xbox One Experience dashboard has had its share of technical problems for those in the Xbox Preview Program and it remains to be seen if it will truly be better than the current dashboard. Hopefully Microsoft will have the reported technical issues fixed prior to the full launch. Regardless of all that, the fact that backward compatibility is coming is a major plus for Xbox One heading into the holidays.
