Rovio Announces Layoffs Of 213 Employees

by Mike Futter on Oct 21, 2015 at 06:17 AM

Angry Birds developer Rovio has confirmed plans to lay off 213 employees. This is fewer than the 260 that were announced when the cuts were revealed in August.

The job cuts come with a plan to restructure the company to focus on three key areas: games, media, and consumer products. Angry Birds has exploded into a variety of related merchandising, and there is a film planned for release in May 2016.

With these 213 cuts following a first round of 110 employees in December 2014, Rovio is now operating at an approximate staff reduction of 36 percent from its earlier staff count of more than 850.

Our Take
Our thoughts are with those who are affected by these layoffs. Hopefully the reorganization returns Rovio to more stable ground.
