Bethesda Announces Doom Closed Alpha

by Mike Futter on Oct 14, 2015 at 05:55 AM

Bethesda has announced an upcoming closed alpha test for Doom. While this isn’t the guaranteed beta access offered to early Wolfenstein: The New Order buyers, having one of those codes will help you get in.

You can redeem your code on the Doom website. If you’ve already done so, don’t worry. You’re in the running for alpha access.

If you do get in, you’ll have one map for team deathmatch (six people per side). On the map, you’ll find a Demon Rune that transforms you temporarily into a Revenant. There’s also a Gauss Cannon that can see through walls and take opponents down in a single shot.

Six standard weapons will be available: the vortex rifle, super shotgun, repeater, rocket launcher, static cannon, and plasma rifle. There are also two different types of equipment: a teleporter and frag grenade.

Bethesda hasn’t detailed specific dates for the alpha. It’s likely soon, as the publisher still has a beta to run before the game’s spring release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Our Take
This is a technical stress test to put the dedicated servers through their paces. While you’ll probably have fun, expect some hiccups.
