Sony Presumptuously Names Bloodborne 'Game Of The Year' Before 2015 Is Even Over

by Mike Futter on Oct 13, 2015 at 02:58 AM

“Game of the Year” editions aren’t a new phenomenon. Dragon Age: Inquisition just received one last week, for instance. But Sony is trying something different. It’s releasing one before any outlets actually award their annual superlatives.

While Bloodborne is quite good, bundling it up with its downloadable content as a “Game of the Year” edition is presumptuous. Still, that’s what Sony is doing in Europe.

The package, which includes the base game and the upcoming The Old Hunters DLC, has been confirmed for a November 25 release in Europe. There’s no word yet on a North American outing.

So, there you have it. Bloodborne has won its first Game of the Year award. From its publisher.

Our Take
Advertising this as a “Game of the Year” edition is deceptive. And while I suspect Bloodborne will likely earn at least one of these superlatives at the end of 2015, some of this year’s biggest releases aren’t even out yet. Going with “definitive edition” or “complete edition” would have been more appropriate.
