[Update] Microsoft Confirms 55GB Install For Halo 5

by Matthew Kato on Oct 12, 2015 at 06:58 AM

Update: Microsoft has confirmed the size of the Halo 5: Guardians install, which comes in under 60GB.

We received this statement from a Microsoft rep: "Halo 5: Guardians will require approximately 55GB of hard drive space for the complete game. Digital copies will include the full game (~55GB), and disc copies will require approximately a 9GB download for multiplayer map content."

The representative specified that the disc and the digital pre-download come in around 46GB. There is a pre-launch 9GB download that can be initiated automatically for the digital version. If you buy the disc, you'll have to download and install the 9GB update.

Original Story: A picture of the back of Halo 5 box appears to show that Master Chief's latest adventure could take up to 60GB of space on your Xbox One hard drive.

A NeoGAF forum poster has put up pictures of the game box, the back of which states, "...up to 60GB storage required."

We've reached out to Microsoft for comment on the matter, and will update this story if we hear back.

Halo 5 comes out on October 27. For more, you can read our in-depth look at two different campaign missions. You can also check out our coverage hub from July 2015.

Our Take
It's not uncommon for Xbox One titles to require 40+GB of space, and the "up to" requirement could be for future patches and/or DLC.
