Capcom Has No Plans To Make Monster Hunter Freedom Unite iOS 9 Compatible

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 27, 2015 at 06:35 AM

Released last year on iOS devices, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is not compatible with iOS 9, and Capcom has no plans to update the game.

News of the game's non-compatibility comes from its iTunes product description page, which you can see screen capped below. It reads, "This application is not compatible with iOS 9 (including the beta). There are currently no plans to update this application in the future. Please keep this in mind when updating your OS."

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is an iOS port of the 2009 PSP game of the same title. It release on iOS July of last year, making just over a year old. We've reached out to Capcom for more details and will update this story if and when we hear more details.

Thanks to Luke Dybeck for the news tip!

Our Take
Non-forward compatibility is something gamers have been dealing with since the very first consoles. If you want the new games on the new platform, you must abandon the old. iOS games, however, have set a precedent of continued compatibility, often working better on the newer platforms – in this case, a new operating system. It's odd that Capcom would commit to not updating the game, especially considering it has only been available for a little over a year. This must be a result of either a smaller player base for the game than Capcom had hoped, or maybe Capcom has big plans for the future of Monster Hunter on iOS. Maybe a dedicated iOS game or sequel is in the works.
