All Rainbow Six Siege DLC Maps Will Be Free

by Mike Futter on Sep 17, 2015 at 05:54 AM

Ubisoft says it wants players to stick around long after the upcoming Rainbow Six Siege launches later this year. The publisher has announced that its DLC plans won’t cost you a dime, at least for new maps.

While Ubisoft is confirming that maps won’t cost you any money, it also suggests there are other post-launch plans in play. “At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology,” a company representative told us via email. “In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage.”

For more on Rainbow Six Siege, you can read our preview from E3. It’s due out on December 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Our Take
With the focus on different countries’ special operations units, it’s conceivable that Ubisoft will be adding more as paid DLC. By giving away the maps, it keeps the community unified. Compatibility packs would allow people to play alongside those with the DLC without needing to own it themselves.
