Reader Discussion: Do You Prefer 2D Or 3D Mario Games?
The Super Mario series celebrated its 30th anniversary yesterday meaning it's a great time to look back at the series as a whole. While we've compiled all our reviews of the Super Mario series, we want to know what you think.
Are you a bigger fan of 2D Mario games or 3D Mario games? While most of the Game Informer editors seem to fall on the side of 2D Mario, preferring the likes of Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 over games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, there is quite a lot of love for Mario's best 3D entries around the office. For me, it's nearly impossible to choose one style or the other. On one hand, Super Mario World is one of my favorite games of all-time, but I have done little to hide my undying love for Super Mario 64. I'm also a massive fan of the Galaxy games, as well as Super Mario 3D World. I think I prefer 2D when it comes to the older games, but when it comes to the games today, I feel that Nintendo does a better job with 3D games.
What do you prefer? Is Mario at his best when he's running from left to right, or is the series better with the freedom the 3D games grant you? Let us know your thoughts, and as an added bonus, tell us your favorite Mario game from each style!
